Vita (The Backstory)

Quintina’s comfortable childhood as a merchant’s daughter in Sicily was brutally interrupted by pirates, leading to her sale into slavery within a Patrician household in Capua at the age of nine. Instead of resisting, she observed the elite’s cruelty and political games, quickly proving her sharp mind to be more valuable than physical labor. She spent years managing her master’s complex trade network, eventually acquiring the skill, influence, and capital necessary to negotiate her own manumission at age 20. She views her past as the ultimate business training, having learned the absolute value of human property, and now commands the very trade that once owned her.
