π± VENUSIA MAGNA: THE LAW OF THE CITY π±
Welcome to Venusia Magna, where ambition, desire, and power intertwine under the eternal gaze of Rome. By stepping into this city, you agree to uphold the following laws and standards. Together we create an immersive, powerful, and enjoyable experience for all residents.
ποΈ I. GENERAL LAW & CIVIC DUTY ποΈ
-
Entry and Identification
The Gates are Open: All residents and visitors are welcome to enter Venusia Magna.
Mandatory Tagging: All citizens must wear their officially designated group tag at all times while on the sim. This identifies your allegiance and helps maintain the social order.
Newcomers & Application: New arrivals are welcome to visit and roleplay provided they are wearing the required HUD and Titler. The OOC (Out-of-Character) tag is reserved only for visitors who wish to observe the city without engaging in roleplay.
-
Attire and Presentation
The Roman Mandate: Roman-themed clothing and accessories are mandatory at all times. The city’s atmosphere relies on historical immersion. Modern, fantasy, or non-Roman attire (e.g., modern jeans, t-shirts, sci-fi gear) is strictly prohibited. When in doubt, err on the side of historical accuracy.
Administrator Exception: The only exception to the attire rule is for an Administrator or Moderator who must quickly teleport in to address an urgent, sim-breaking issue. They will revert to appropriate attire immediately after resolving the matter.
-
Respect and Conduct (The OOC Treaty)
Zero Tolerance for Real-Life Hate: There is zero tolerance for real-life racism, bigotry, hate speech, sexism, or any form of discrimination targeting a player’s real-life identity. This conduct is grounds for immediate expulsion.
Consent is Law: Do not forcefully insert your roleplay into another playerβs active scene without explicit OOC (Out-of-Character) consent. Respect the boundaries of private scenes. If you wish to join, send an IM requesting permission first.
OOC/IC Separation: While in character, your words may be vile, but your out-of-character demeanor must remain respectful. Do not let character conflicts bleed into OOC player disagreements.
βοΈ II. VENUSIA’S SOCIAL ORDER βοΈ
Venusia Magna thrives on a strict, though nuanced, hierarchy. Your status dictates your rights and privileges within the city.
| Class / Role | Status in Society | General Rights & Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Citizens (Patricians/Plebians) | High to Middle | Full rights to own property, trade, and hold office. Bound by all Roman laws. |
| Merchants & Tradesmen | Middle | Respected for their contributions to the city’s economy. Full rights, but often beholden to the wealthy. |
| Lupa Romana (Whores) | Middle | Considered necessary contributors to the city’s commerce and pleasure. Equal in stature to Merchants. Their services are strictly for profit (see Trade Laws). |
| Women and Men | Varies by Role | Generally considered equal, except where specific, established character roles (e.g., Magistrate, Vestal Virgin, Legionary) dictate a formal difference in public authority or rights. |
| Slaves (Servus/Ancilla) | The Lowest Class | Considered property, comparable to the filth in the stables. They are subject to the will of their owner and have minimal legal rights or protections. Slaves may be male or female. |
π III. CORE ROLEPLAY GUIDELINES π
-
IC vs. OOC Communication
Local Chat is Sacred: Local (whisper/say/shout) chat must always remain strictly In-Character (IC). Speak as your character.
OOC Protocol: All Out-of-Character discussions, questions, or private commentary must be restricted to private IMs or the Venusia Magna group. Use OOC brackets (like ((OOC: text))) in local chat only for quick, immediate corrections or emergencies.
-
Metagaming is Treason
Definition: Metagaming is the act of a player using knowledge they possess in real life to influence or guide their character’s actions, even though the character has no legitimate in-character way of knowing that information.
Prohibition: Utilizing player knowledge (e.g., reading a group notice about an assassination plot your character wasn’t informed of, or knowing a character’s OOC reason for logging off) is strictly prohibited. Your character only knows what they have witnessed, been told IC, or logically deduced.
-
Power-Gaming / Forced Roleplay
Consent to Action: You may never dictate another player’s actions, thoughts, or the outcome of a conflict without their prior consent.
Invalid Example: “You trip on the stone and your sword flies out of your hand.”
Valid Example: “I kick out my foot, attempting to trip you.” (This allows the other player to determine the success or failure of the action.)No Altering History: You may not roleplay an action that retroactively alters a previously agreed-upon event. Roleplay must allow for natural action, reaction, and consequences.
-
Fear and Consequences (The Law of the Arena)
Realistic Consequences: Characters must act with realistic and logical fear for their lives, freedom, and status. While permanent character death must be OOCly agreed upon, all actions must reflect the serious threat of injury, maiming, severe debt, or loss of freedom/status.
No Invincibility: Characters who are reckless, ignore clear danger, or act without fear of reprisal (e.g., insulting a Magistrate without security, attacking a Legionary post) will face severe, life-altering IC consequences.
π IV. SEX, COMMERCE, AND TRADE LAWS π
-
The Law of the Lupa Romana
Payment is Mandatory: Roman whores (Lupa Romana) who have chosen this class as their profession may not engage in sexual services without payment. This is a commercial enterprise vital to the city.
Minimum Rate: The absolute minimum charge for any sexual service must be 300L.
Consequences of Violation: Engaging in free services or undercutting the minimum rate is considered economic treason against the Whores’ Guild and carries severe, ICly enforceable consequences determined by the Guild or Administrators.
-
Sex and Slavery
Slaves and Residents: Slaves may engage in free sexual activity as their status dictates. All non-whore residents (Patricians, Plebians, Merchants, etc.) are also free to engage in sexual roleplay without charge.
The Whore Exception: The only characters restricted by payment are the officially tagged Lupa Romana (Whores).
Follow these laws to ensure Venusia Magna remains an amazing and immersive experience for all residents.
